Last night’s Plant and Sip Fundraiser was wonderful! Many thanks to our Fundraising Chairs, Jeanine, Diana, and Des who organized everything, to Catherine, the greenhouse manager from Abma’s Farm who taught us how to plant our succulent terrariums with such energy and advice, to Jonathan from B&M Market in Park Ridge who donated all the food for the evening and stayed to explain his delicious offerings, to Savvy Chic jewelry who treated us to a display of their beautiful and well-priced jewelry and donated a portion of their sales to the club, and to our members and guests who nibbled, laughed, sipped, and planted together and left with a beautiful terrarium. We appreciated all of your support!

31st Annual Poetry and Essay Contest Awards Night

On Tuesday, March 7th, we were delighted to honor the winners in our 31st annual Poetry and Essay Contest. The students read their winning entries to an audience of family members, teachers, principals, and club members. Dr. Monica Browne, Superintendent of Upper Saddle River Schools, spoke of the excellence of the students’ entries and of our club’s long standing support of writing in the schools. She awarded each student with a congratulatory letter from the Board of Education. Jennifer Kenny, Club Education and Contest Chair, awarded Certificates and Barnes and Noble Gift Cards to the winners on behalf of our club. The students’ work will be on display at the Upper Saddle River Library for the next two months. Winners names will also be engraved on the plaques in the schools. Congratulations to the winners–and to all those students who entered the 2017 contest!

The kick-off Bake Sale on Saturday will be held in memory of Denise Casalino. Come purchase a sweet treat and help us welcome and support USR CARES!

Cooking Class at From Scratch
Our members enjoyed working alongside Chef Claudia Rovegno at her restaurant, From Scratch, in Ridgewood. In teams, we began with dessert first–making lemon custard. While that set, we learned how to cook the main course–Veal Saltimbocca alla Romana, and pasta with pesto sauce, potatoes and string beans. We topped off our culinary adventure by sharing the fruits of our labor and having a delicious meal together.

Warm Weather Clothing Delivered to Oasis in Paterson
The mission of Oasis is to change the lives of women and children by breaking the cycle of poverty through compassionate programs designed to feed, clothe, educate, and empower women and children in need.
A big thank you to our members and the others in our Community who thoughtfully donated new hats, gloves and scarves and gently used winter coats for the ladies at the Oasis Shelter. Thanks also to Kathryn Hamilton who drove a carload to the shelter!
