The Woman’s Club of Upper Saddle River is part of a sisterhood of clubs on the State, National, and International levels.

The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), founded in 1894, is the largest volunteer women’s service organization in the state with over 160 local clubs, totaling nearly 6,000 members statewide. With a vision of Volunteers in Action, NJSFWC provides opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service. They partner with Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University and sponsor scholarships and educational programs.

NJSFWC is comprised of eight districts, and our Club is proud to be part of the Ramapo District, along with 15 other clubs committed to service and community involvement. Our Club leadership meets quarterly with the other Ramapo District clubs to share updates, exchange ideas, and learn about upcoming statewide initiatives. Our Club also participates in supporting the statewide, Special State Project, charity, selected every two years through a vote across the state.

Our members may showcase their talents at District Achievement Day across a variety of categories, including photography, painting, crafting, and more. Winners receive a certificate and may advance to the State competition, held during the NJSFWC Convention in May. Our leadership team also prepares annual reports documenting our activities, volunteer hours, and donations. These reports are combined with those from clubs throughout New Jersey to create the State Total, demonstrating the collective impact and power of our Federation clubs. These in turn feed into our national GFWC totals.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is one of the oldest international non-partisan, non-denominational women’s volunteer service organization with more than 60,000 members across 2,300 Clubs, including international clubs. Their motto is Living the Volunteer Spirit, supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging civic involvement. GFWC also has a strong legislative and advocacy focus. Working with state federations, GFWC advocates for legislation on national and international issues that align with its community service programs, including domestic violence prevention, child advocacy, education, healthcare, and the environment.

Through our membership in NJSFWC and GFWC, our Club is connected to women’s clubs across the state, country and internationally, giving our members opportunities to participate in broader service initiatives, share ideas and accomplishments, and be part of a larger community of women making a difference.
