God of The Woods

🌲📚 We brought the woods indoors!

Our Book Club dove into The God of the Woods by Liz Moore this month — and we fully embraced the theme by giving our meeting a woodsy campsite feel!

Huge thanks to Karen and Joan for creating the perfect atmosphere with camping-style snacks, goodies, and the cutest campfire/s’mores cupcakes to top it all off. 🔥🧁

Best of all… no one got lost in the woods! 😉

A great book, great discussion, and great company — what more could we ask for? 💚

So Many Recipes! The Briar Club

📚 So many recipes! Our Book Club had a lively discussion last night after reading The Briar Club by Kate Quinn. We loved exploring the different lives and challenges of women in the 1950s, such difficult and trying perspectives! A big thank you to Fran for hosting and treating us to a delicious spread inspired by the Briar women’s favorite dishes! 🍷📖✨

Next month’s read: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore — join us on November 18th! 🌲

Holiday Book Club Book Swap

We wrapped up our last book club meeting of the year in style! Since A Gentleman in Moscow is set in a hotel and centers around a fancy restaurant, we decided to embrace the theme with a formal dinner, some Russian nibbles, and plenty of vodka. To top it all off, we ended the night with a festive holiday book swap.

Cheers to a great year of reading!

Poe Cottage Tour

For October’s spooky season, the Women’s Club had a fantastic day diving into the eerie world of Edgar Allan Poe! Members explored Poe Cottage in the Bronx, where the legendary author spent his final days seeking fresh air and inspiration in what was then the countryside. 🏡🍂

After an insightful tour of his home, no Bronx visit would be complete without a trip to Arthur Avenue! Members wrapped up the day with a delicious meal, enjoying great food and even better company. 🍝🖤

Here’s to more unique adventures and celebrating literary legends together!

A Roaring Good Time at Book Club!

Our members embarked on an incredible journey with The Lioness book club review, traveling from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the wilds of Africa! Members enjoyed rooms beautifully decorated to reflect each theme: Hollywood, complete with glitter champagne from a champagne wall, a row of Oscars and the iconic sign, and a Safari room draped in flowing tent fabric and filled with wild animal decor! Even the food matched the theme, making it a truly immersive and unforgettable experience! Thank you Joan and Karen for a fantastic event!

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Members commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the end of January. Our Book Club members read The Midwife of Auschwitz by Anna Stuart and, together with other members and friends, made a trip to the Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education on the nearby campus of Rockland Community College. We participated in a Moral Courage Workshop and toured the museum. It was sobering afternoon and a reminder to fight to end hatred of any kind, anywhere. Many thanks to Phyllis Schmaus who led our tour.

Book Group Meeting and Holiday Book Swap

Begun on Zoom in early 2021 in the days of COVID isolation, our Club’s Book Group will be celebrating our third year of monthly book discussions as we turn the calendar page to 2024! From a small number of original readers, the group has grown to include 27 members who now meet at members’ homes! Our most recent meeting was to discuss Ann Patchett’s new book, Tom Lake. We celebrated the story of a cherry orchard family with a cherry cocktail, cherry turnovers and Cornish Pasties. Every member present brought a wrapped book to swap––and stealing went on as packages were opened! Everyone went home with a new book to read over the holidays. We look forward to another year of reading together!
