Hospital Parent Survivor Bag Project

Members filled 22 Hospital Survivor Bags for parents of children with cancer and donated them to Emmanuel Cancer Foundation’s Center in Midland Park this month. Nestled in the bags with a note of encouragement were natural and fragrance free toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, comb, dry shampoo), a pad and pen for taking notes, granola bars and snacks, adult coloring book, colored pencils, and a Sudoku or crossword puzzle book. We hope to bring some comfort to parents who are faced with supporting their children as they endure the huge challenge of chldhood cancer.

Many thanks to Linda Miko who organized this community service project.

“Souper Bowl” Food Drive

In late January and February, club members donated and collected hearty soups and other non-perishable food items to support the Center for Food Action’s “Souper Bowl” Food Drive. Members brought their donations to our meeting. Collection baskets were also placed in the USR Library lobby and a drive through was held at our recycling center on a Saturday. Community outreach and member generosity filled two carloads of donations to help neighbors in need.

Thrift Shop Volunteer Week

Club members have been busy volunteering at The Community Thrift Shop in Midland Park this week. We work one week a year tagging donated clothing in order to keep our commitment and our ability to donate gently used goods. It is a win-win, small, ongoing fundraiser. Our club gets a percentage of the sale price of donated goods with our club number on them (#39), and we have a place to donate our gently used clothing and household goods to benefit others. Please support us if you have Items to donate!

Two kitchen size garbage bags full of donations per person are accepted every Monday morning from 10am-11:30, and on the first Saturday morning of the month at the same hours. The Thrift Shop is at 85 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Turn right onto Goffle Ave at the Godwin/Goffle intersection and then immediately left into the shopping center. Bear right and down around the back of the Shopping Center. The Thrift Shop will be on the left.

Please mark your bags with the #39! Thanks for your support!

March Food Drive

On Saturday, March 20th, our club manned tables at Borough Hall to collect non-perishable items for The Center For Food Action. This was our second food drive of this club year, and town residents as well as members drove by and donated. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to fill many boxes and bags with much needed food for those in need. Thanks also, to the members who donated their time to work shifts from 8am until Noon, to the Northern Highlands Student Volunteers, and to the DPW who loaded up a truck for us. Together we made a difference for those whom The Center For Food Action serves!

NJSFWC 125th Anniversary Day of Service

The New Jersey Federation of Woman’s Clubs celebrated its 125th Anniversary by holding a Day of Service on November 16th. All clubs were asked to donate goods that a young man or woman aging out of foster care might need when setting up their own living space. Among the items members donated were toiletries, cleaning products, blankets, socks, backpacks, hats, notebooks, t-shirts, snack items and many more. Members also wrote notes of encouragement to be given to the young people as they set out on their own. We filled a car with our donations. Many thanks to  Sheila Ghorashi and Linda Miko who drove the items to Montville to our district collection location.Day of Service
