2025 Poetry & Essay Winners!

🎉📚 Congratulations to the Winners of Our Poetry & Essay Contest! 📚🎉

We are thrilled to announce the 12 outstanding students who were selected as this year’s Poetry & Essay Contest winners! Big congratulations to Isabella, Victoria, Ajun, Reya, Essa, Solema, Samantha, Aushmi, Harrison, Hannah, Anshi, and Justin!

With this year’s topic being “What was the best gift you ever gave someone?”, our young writers shared heartfelt, thoughtful, and sometimes funny stories about the joy of giving and their creativity truly impressed us.

We were also thrilled to recognize Victoria and Ajun, whose entries from last year went on to win at the State Federation level! We also had 3 other State winners: Leah, Lucy and George!

We also want to extend a big thank-you to the parents, teachers, administrators, and our dedicated judging panel for supporting these young writers. And an extra-special thanks to Tamara, our contest chairwoman, for her tremendous work organizing this year’s contest.

We are so proud of our young authors! Keep writing, keep imagining, and keep shining! ✨📝

Thrift Shop Volunteering!

💚👚 Our Club members had a great volunteer day yesterday at the Community Thrift Shop in Midland Park!

Two hardworking shifts helped tag an amazing amount of donated clothing, with a little lunch break in between and even some fun shopping at the end. By the end, the huge pile of clothing behind us was all tagged and ready for pricing. A portion of the shop’s proceeds go back to charitable organizations like ours. This is a great fundraiser project for our Club.

If you donate items to the Community Thrift Shop, please ask them to mark your donation for our Club,#39 so we can continue supporting local causes together. Thank you to everyone who volunteered! 💚✨

God of The Woods

🌲📚 We brought the woods indoors!

Our Book Club dove into The God of the Woods by Liz Moore this month — and we fully embraced the theme by giving our meeting a woodsy campsite feel!

Huge thanks to Karen and Joan for creating the perfect atmosphere with camping-style snacks, goodies, and the cutest campfire/s’mores cupcakes to top it all off. 🔥🧁

Best of all… no one got lost in the woods! 😉

A great book, great discussion, and great company — what more could we ask for? 💚

Poetry & Essay Thank You!

📚✨ A Huge THANK YOU to all the students, teachers, parents, and school administrators who supported our Poetry & Essay Contest this year! We’re thrilled to share that we received a record-breaking 380+ entries! 🎉 Your creativity and enthusiasm continue to inspire us every year!

Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us! 😅 We might need to call in a few more readers to help us enjoy all these wonderful submissions. Stay tuned for updates and results soon! 🏆📝

So Many Recipes! The Briar Club

📚 So many recipes! Our Book Club had a lively discussion last night after reading The Briar Club by Kate Quinn. We loved exploring the different lives and challenges of women in the 1950s, such difficult and trying perspectives! A big thank you to Fran for hosting and treating us to a delicious spread inspired by the Briar women’s favorite dishes! 🍷📖✨

Next month’s read: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore — join us on November 18th! 🌲

Fall Boat Tour

What a picture-perfect fall day! 🍂☀️ Our club members soaked up the sunshine on Saturday during a scenic Hudson River boat tour. The leaves may not have been at their peak, but the lovely views, fresh breeze, and fascinating scommentary on the rich history along the New York and New Jersey shoreline made it a truly memorable day!

Did you know there is a little lighthouse at the base of the George Washington Bridge? The Little Red Lighthouse has been keeping watch since 1921! 🚤🍁
